VA authorizes high-security cloud services
- By Gov Cloud Insider Staff
The Department of Veterans Affairs has issued new authorities to operate for high-security cloud services from two of the largest providers.
On March 10, Amazon Web Services announced that VA had issued a Federal Information Security Management Act High General Support System ATO for Amazon Web Services’ GovCloud, as well as a FISMA Moderate GSS ATO for AWS' U.S. East and West Regions.
A few days later, Microsoft announced that its Azure Government cloud had received a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program High baseline ATO from the department.
These high-security approvals allow VA to move sensitive government workloads to the cloud, including those that involve patient data and other personally identifiable information.
Both Azure Government and AWS GovCloud also have earned provisional FedRAMP High ATOs from the Joint Authorization Board -- approvals meant to help agencies begin to move more-sensitive systems to the cloud.
CSRA's ARC-P Cloud also has earned the provisional FedRAMP High ATO.
